2015: First Quarter Travels

First three months of 2015 is done and summer period has already started. I'm just so lucky that i have been to different places in just three months specially together with my family and friends...

So let me start with my first travel stop....

An early trek near on our house in Angono, Rizal. I've named the place as Mt. Perlita named after the restaurant that can be seen on the peak together with old tower....^_^

Next stop was a traverse dayhike in Mt. Daraitan, Tanay, Rizal to Tinipak River, General Nakar, Quezon Province. Together with xplorerboyz Carlo, Melvin, Johari, Joel and Ekoy. It was another memorable dayhike because of its memorable road trip, almost all assault hike and a very refreshing dip at Tinipak river. Although our adventures was not complete, we promise to ourselves that we will comeback for its cave and waterfalls.....^_^

Summertime is almost started. So better to start the summer with a beacheenering trip and our next stop was a family beacheenering trip at Laiya, San Juan, Batangas in Sigayan Bay Beach Resort. This is the first time that Macoy family had an beach adventure for our yearly summer trip. My kids really enjoyed the beach and all of us had also a great time spending the shores of Laiya..^_^

Next stop was another road trip travel up north. The province of my mother-in-law. Together with my wife, kids and the rest of Macoy family, we travelled to Bauang, La Union. To enjoy another weekend of beacheenering, visiting relatives and a little get together gathering. However it was really hard for me travelling with an upset stomach, but this will not stop me to enjoy another family vacation...^_^

After our weekend stay at La Union, it's time to go back to reality, however we had another stop prior in going back to Manila.We visited, toured and pray for our safety trip back home at the Church of Manaoag also known as The Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag....^_^

Our Lady of Manaoag Rosary Garden

This is one of peaceful place you could found in the church grounds of Our Lady of Manaoag, where the shrine lies the Our Lady of Manaoag Rosary Garden.

This is a real garden with a purpose. Where you could find life-sized statues of the main character of each mystery of the rosary will transport you back to the life of Christ. The Incarnate Word (Joyful Mysteries), the Christ who suffered Passion (Sorrowful Mysteries), and Christ who Resurrected (Glorious Mysteries).

The statues were arranged in a rosary form. Upon entering the garden, there is an oval walkway with crucifix in the middle. To the right starts the Joyful Mystery. Another feature is an imposing waterfall with a large fishpond at the far right of the garden.

This garden also welcomes pilgrims with its green lush surroundings that will surely renew your body and soothe your spirit as you pray the rosary. There are also big gazebos that provide shade and serves as sitting area.

The garden was formerly called Pilgrims Garden. Through the generosity off Our Lady’s devotees, it was totally renovated in 1999. In the morning of March 18, 2000, the Our Lady of Manaoag Rosary Garden was inaugurated.

I do hope when you visit The Church of Our Lady of Manaoag, you could visit the Rosary Garden and say your prayers with the whole family, loved ones, and the other church's amenities dedicated to all of the pilgrims of the Church of Our Lady of Manaoag.

 It was a nice experience, even though it was a very short visit. It really bring  backs some of my memories when the first time i visited this church together with my family. So this is it, the last part of my Manaoag Trip.

This museum is another part of Our Lady of Manaoag Church's ground aside from its Rosary Garden. Also this is part of my Manaoag sidetrip and a visit to the patron of Manaoag.

Inaugurated on May 10, 2000, the museum intends to foster the preservation, enrichment and dynamic evolution of Our Lady’s history and works. It aims to conserve, promote and popularize Our Lady’s historical and religious heritage. Much more, to recognize and respect Our Lady’s and the shrine’s memories.

The museum displays collection items of Our Lady, of the old friars, and of the shrine as well.

Hers are some of  the collection items you could see inside the museum:

A collection of Pre-Vatican II chasubles, capes and a dalmatic which may date back as far as 17th century.
Monstrances, Chalices, Ciboria, Paten & Communion Plate, Candelabras.

Our Lady's Vestments, Perfumes, Pieces of Jewelry.

Our Lady of Manaoag

Aside from this musuem there is more spacious of new candle gallery that can accommodate the large number of devotees who light candles for their prayers and petitions. Subdued lightings that accentuate the glares of candlelight also add solemnity to the place. At the center of the structure, a soothing fountain is yet to be completed, where a replica of the image of Manaoag will be installed.

Devotees who wish to have their religious articles blessed may ask a priest to bless the items at “blessing area” beside the candle gallery. The area accommodates the blessing of holy water, religious items, and vehicles. Pilgrims may also find religious books and items at the newly-renovated religious stores in the shrine premises that sell a variety of rosaries, religious images, novenas and books.

Our Lady of Manaoag is a canonically crowned image of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, duly recognized by the Vatican and enshrined in a church under the Dominican Order in the country.

Museo de Nuestra Senora de Manaoag is part of the Convent of Our Lady of the Rosary (Manaoag). It is open from Mondays to Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on Tuesdays. Admission is free of charge but donations are welcomed to augment museum maintenance and education program. They also accept mass offerings and donations for the Shrine.

After staying for few days at the Summer Capital of our Country & this place is also be my last trip for the Year of  2010.Yours truly together with two our trippers go down to Our Lady of Manaoag.  This is my 2nd time to visit this church, i just graduated high school when the 1st time i visit this church, there where so many improvements from the past i visited this place. But more important, is there where always so many pilgrims that is visiting this church, to pray for a good & pleasant trip, need some blessings for ex. a new car, or any valuable thing and visit the religious shrine with countless miraculous tales and healing powers that happened in this church. Now that the Holy Week is will be in few months. I’m really sure most you out there are now thinking how to spend a long weekend. Most of the families will be taking this opportunity to go to their favorite summer destination. Although there are still some who wishes to take some time to reflect and repent, most of us would still commit to go to Churches on this season. During lenten season, Our Lady of Manaoag Shrine has been one of the many favorite pilgrimage locations for the Catholics in the Philippines.

Here is a brief history of Our Lady of Manaoag:

From wiki.....The origins of the Our Lady of Manaoag started with the holy Augustinian fathers who were in charge of the spiritual administration of the Manaoag town from the year 1590 to 1613 in accords to the sanctified decree of Spain. In 1614, the spiritual leadership was transferred to the Dominicans, under the patronage of Santa Monica.In the early 17th century, the ivory image was brought to the Philippines by Padre Juan de San Jacinto from Spain via Acapulco.
According to documented accounts dating back to 1610, a native man who was walking home heard a Lady's mysterious voice. He looked around and with great awe saw the radiant Lady with a Rosary on her right hand and a Child on her left as she stood on a cloud veiling a treetop. The man fell on his knees. He told the people of the apparition. And soon right on the spot where the Lady appeared a church was built. A town quickly flourished around it and was called "Manaoag". Tradition has it that the town itself was born from the Virgin’s call, thus the term, "taoag" meaning "to call" was used to name the town. This is where the name Manaoag was derived from, which means "She Calls".

During World War II, the Church suffered moderate damage. 4 bombs were released on top of the church. 3 bombs landed on the plaza and the facade, destroying them both. One bomb landed in the sanctuary, but failed to explode.The church was rebuilt, and today, it is an active parish serving Manaoag and the surrounding area.

Some of the Miraculous Accounts of Our Lady of Manaoag:

From wiki....The statue of Our Lady of Manaoag purportedly has a long history of miraculous and pious events that are duplicated in the murals all over the church. This is done so that the events will never be forgotten. Devotees, coming from all over the globe, have various reasons for visiting the place among which are pleas for health restoration, good voyage, or better fate.

The statue of Our Lady of Manaoag is considered to be priceless because of the great identity it brings to the province of Pangasinan, but more interestingly because of its jeweled crown. Many criminal attempts have occurred to burglarize the Manaoag Shrine. Several golden crowns and halos are owned by the Manaoag Shrine, which were donated by both Filipinos and foreigners who have visited it. In addition to this, a great display of perfumes are also displayed in the Manaoag museum, from which donations of devotees from all across the globe are presented as gifts to Our Lady of Manaoag.

Some of the miraculous accounts regarding Our Lady of Manaoag are the barbaric times when early pagans from the mountain tribes used to burn down newly converted Christian villages, by which the town of Manaoag was not spared. The city was set on fire. The church with its thatched roof was the last refuge of the people. But the leader of the pillagers, climbed over the fence and shot lighted arrows to all parts of the church. Not a single flame, however, set it on fire. This miraculous event was famously repeated and nationally reported during World War II. The Japanese army dropped several bombs on the roof of the Manaoag shrine, by which all landed causing no damage to the roof and the shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Because the statue is heavily guarded and secured through bulletproof glass panels within the high altars of the Church, the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan has opened an opportunity for people to have a chance to be able to touch the statue of Our Lady of Manaoag by climbing up to the second floor through a stairs located at the back of the church. The soft velvet gown worn by the Lady of Manaoag has a faded spot from where the devotees streaked their hands. After a devotee makes a quick prayer, touches the back of the Lady of Manaoag, and makes a sign of the cross, they move across a souvenir store and on their way out of the church building.

The hilltop location of the Our Lady of Manaoag's shrine stands up to this day where thousands continue to flock every year. Huge crowds attended the day the image was canonically crowned by his Holiness Pope Pius XI using his papal power of Papal Nuncio on April 21, 1926. She celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of her coronation on January 1, 2000.

How to get to Manaoag in Pangasinan:

Go to bus companies like Victory Liner (Dagupan Destination), Five Star, or Dagupan Bus Line and ask them to drop you at Manaoag Church. The trip takes about 4 hours. If you’re coming from Baguio, you could choose from Victory Liner (old terminal) & GGTEpress van trip to Manaoag is about 2 hours.
